My Survival Guide to Treat Winter Skin

winter skin

I don’t know about you but my skin has been feeling more dry than usual this year due to the cold weather that we’ve been having in Seattle. I feel like the temperature has been lower than previous years and it’s definitely effecting my skin! This means I have to switch out some of my skincare products and use other products that truly conditions my winter skin in this dry weather.

What I love about this face wash is that I can use it all year round. The formula is made to balance out the dry and oily areas of your skin, leaving it feeling completely fresh and clean. It does not leave my face feeling too dry, nor does it leave excess oil. I have been using this for years and have not been disappointed!

Of course, when you use a face cleanser you have to also use a moisturizer! I’ve already mentioned this Shiseido moisturizer in one of my monthly gems posts but I just have to bring it up again! What I love about this moisturizer is that it visibly improves the texture of my skin by providing lasting hydration which is important for winter skin, and it corrects the appearance of blemishes and redness. My skin always feels radiant after using it.

I recently started using these eye masks and I love how they are so soothing and make my eyes feel so relaxed. They have various formulas that helps improve specific under eye issues. The green tea eye masks creates a smoothing effect and wide awake look, while the lotus formula reduces the signs of fatigue which is perfect for a fresh look. If you are looking for a similar product that can be used on your entire face, be sure to check out these sheet masks that I featured in my holiday gift guide!

If sheet masks aren’t your thing, then I have another great recommendation for you! I discovered this rose face mask while I was searching for a new mask to help improve my skin moisture in this dry weather. It is a cool gel that is infused with real rose petals and pure rosewater and it smells absolutely amazing! I use this once a week and I love how it hydrates and brightens my skin while visibly improving the appearance of my skin.

I never knew what a konjac sponge was until a few years ago. It is a natural sponge made from the fibrous root of the Japanese konjac plant and is also made of bamboo charcoal. I normally don’t like scrubbing things on my face but it is gentle enough to use daily to exfoliate dead skin cells and get rid of toxins to reveal a soft, radiant, and glowing complexion. What I do is rinse it under warm water before using it and then I massage in a circular motion to exfoliate dead skin cells. I then rinse it thoroughly and squeeze out excess water after each use. The sponge is recommended to be replaced every one to two months.

I know that I’ve only been talking about face products but it’s also very important to use a moisturizing body lotion to treat your winter skin. I always apply this lotion immediately after showering. I use a fragrance free lotion during this time of year because added fragrances normally dry out your skin. If you have extremely dry skin, you might want to try out the 24 hr moisturizing lotion. It comes in a richer formula but it absorbs quickly and is non-greasy.

I hope this winter skin survival guide is helpful for you! It is no fun having dry skin and these are definitely products that I will swear by this winter. Please let me know if you have tried any of these products or if you have any recommendations for me!

Ugh! I’ve been trying to beat this winter skin! I live in Seattle too and this year is much colder than last. Aveen is definitely my go to for body moisturizer and I use Shisheido moisturizer too! I’ve heard the Origins one is good too but have yet to try it!
