Coffee Talk: A Wonderful Year in 2016!

I can not believe this year is coming to an end in just a few weeks! It has been a spectacular year with many positive changes and challenges. However, I am thankful for every moment. Although the year is not quite over yet, I decided to reflect on what made 2016 amazing. Sometimes it’s important for me to write about these things so that I can remind myself of how much I have to be grateful for.

Gabriel Year 2016

1. The birth of my son.
I gave birth to Gabriel just a few days after the new year began. I really can’t think of any better way to ring in the new year than bringing a new life into this world and start a family. As a first time mom, everything feels so surreal. We experienced so many firsts, such as his first plane ride, first Halloween, and now his first holiday season. He is so precious to me and it’s so amazing watching him grow!

2. I took a big leap and left the corporate world.
Leaving the work force was such a major decision for me. I have always prioritized my career and focused on building my profession, however, building my family is more important to me. I wrote a post titled 5 Reasons When It’s OK to Quit and although I didn’t mention anything about raising a family, some of the reasons why I decided to leave my job were mentioned in that post. I am very happy to be at home and raise my son on my own. It is truly a blessing!

3. I started blogging… again.
I decided to launch G&J after having my son. I really missed writing and thought this would be the best opportunity for me since I wasn’t working anymore. I actually had a food blog a couple years ago but couldn’t keep up with it since it was hard for me to balance blogging and work. To be honest, I don’t even know how I manage to balance it now that I’m a SAHM! lol. I stay up til insane hours after my son is asleep and work on writing, editing, and doing research but I absolutely love it! Every once in a while I actually get to go to a coffee shop and work on my blog as pictured above, but it’s very rare!

4. I love going to the barre.
I’m referring to barre fitness studios where you do workouts inspired by ballet, yoga, and pilates! I have never loved any type of workout so much until I started doing barre. I used to have a gym membership but I was wasting it away because I lacked motivation and needed someone to push me. I seem to like going to group fitness classes more because I have an instructor that holds me accountable and makes sure I’m using proper form. I like how barre is low impact but challenges many muscle groups and actually shows results!

5. I started a book club.
Yes, me…. the girl who was shy and quiet most of my life took an initiative and started a book club! As an adult, I find it much harder to meet new people. I think it’s especially hard since I’m a SAHM and I feel like I really have to put myself out there to have some social interaction. We had one book club meeting so far and I must say that it went pretty well! Everyone is really nice and it’s great meeting other women who live near me. I hope this book club continues to be a success throughout the new year. If you have any books you would like to recommend for my next book club meeting, please let me know!

As you can see, 2016 has been an amazing year for me! There has been so many wonderful moments and there are many more that I didn’t mention but these are just a few highlights.

Let me know what has made 2016 wonderful for you!

I want more time for books. I purchased two new books on Cyber Monday on Amazon: The Round House and Game of Thrones. I wish I lived close enough to you to do a book club with you!

Being able to leave the corporate world and raise your family is such a blessing! However, I agree that it makes blogging difficult because you’re juggling so much at the same time. Thank you for visiting, Lauren! 🙂
