Let’s be honest, it’s really hard to predict what your life would be like 10 years from now, 5 years from now, or just one year from now. Some people are lucky enough to be able to map out their life and figure out what they wanted to do early on and were able to stick to it. However, that doesn’t happen for all of us. I have gone through many twists and turns in my life and have faced lots of confusion, negativity, and toxic energy which often times brought me down. Some did not take my ambitions and interests seriously and as a result, I didn’t take myself seriously and didn’t think I deserved to be happy or successful.
Do I regret any of my experiences or feedback I received from others? Absolutely not. It’s definitely true when they say that you learn from your experiences. It makes you much stronger and more confident and I am who I am today because of everything I have faced. The way I became a stronger person was learning how to remove the toxins in my life. I wish I could say I had a book or go-to guide to help get rid of all the negative aspects of my life but one day a little voice inside me told me that I had to make changes to make myself healthier and happier.
If I were to make a simple go-to guide, here’s what I would’ve told myself:
1. Write down your goals.
This may sound silly, especially since nowadays most people don’t handwrite anything anymore. However, if you write down your goals you will have a constant visual reminder of what you’re working towards. Jot down your goals and post them somewhere that you can clearly see, like on a board that you hang in your room or on a piece of paper that you stick on your fridge. Seeing these reminders will help you stay focused and on track to reach your achievements.
2. Let it go.
People who usually pour out negative energy to others are usually lacking confidence in themselves. Do not take things personally and do not feel the need to lash back at them. That will only let the other person know that they are accomplishing their goal, which is to let you down. Even though some comments may bother me, I try to flip the conversation and make it positive with a kind remark like, “I know it’s going to be difficult, but I know I can do it if I am persistent at it.”
3. Don’t let little bumps on the road discourage you.
Of course, with everything in life you will always come across some bumpy roads. There is not always going to be a smooth paved road for every journey. You will face many ups and downs that may discourage you from reaching your goal. However, it’s true when they say, “If it doesn’t kill you, it only makes you stronger.” Keep your head up and keep on going and you will get to where you want to be. The most successful people are the ones that faced many bumpy roads or got turned down several times and kept on fighting to reach their destination.
4. If you tell yourself that you can’t do something, you’re probably right.
Along with removing negative people from your life, you should also remove negative thoughts. I know it may be hard to remove those thoughts when people are feeding you with negative energy but you must teach yourself to see the other side of things. There is a light at the end of the tunnel. You just have to go towards it.
5. Remove negative people from your life.
This can be more difficult than it sounds. If you are associated with people that are constantly bringing you down and showering you with negativity, then you really have to take a step back and think about whether these individuals are a valuable asset in your life or if they are toxic towards your happiness and well being. Cutting toxic individuals from my life was a very hard thing but it led me to more happiness and clarity and those are two things that I highly value.
6. Focus on the positive things.
When I became a mom, my priorities have changed. I no longer have time or energy (since I no longer sleep. lol) to focus on petty things that could possibly bring me down. I am thankful to have a great support system and a beautiful, healthy boy that keeps me going each day.
These are a just a few of my ideas and thoughts I live by. Of course, I can probably sit here all day and write a novel about how to remove negativity from your life and how to motivate yourself to be the best version of yourself that you can be. However, I’d like to hear your thoughts and feedback. How do you remove toxins from your life? How has it help you succeed? I’d love to hear your thoughts!
